Two arrested in one of two shooting incidents in Niagara Falls

NIAGARA FALLS – Arrests have been made in one of two shooting incidents reported in the city over the weekend.

Police investigators do not believe the cases are related.

Courtney Williams of Whitney Avenue and Lacory Edwards, of Jordan Gardens, both 18, were each charged Sunday with first-degree assault for their alleged roles in a shooting in the 7900 block of Lindbergh Avenue just after 10 p.m. Saturday.

The victim told police he was waiting for Williams to pick him up and when he exited his home, Williams and two others began walking toward him. He said Williams and a second male pulled out guns and shot at him multiple times before he was able to flee.

The victim was taken to Erie County Medical Center where police said he was in stable condition on Monday.

Friends of the victim told police they saw Williams and two other people roaming the halls of ECMC on Sunday and detectives responded to the hospital where they interviewed the three and took Williams and Edwards into custody.

The men were in the hospital for reasons unrelated to the victim presence, said Detective Capt. Kelly Rizzo, chief of detectives.

Another shooting, which is not connected to the Lindbergh Avenue shooting according to police, was reported Friday just before 11 p.m. at 23rd and Tennessee streets.

The victim was parked on 23rd Street when he told police a man in a ski mask opened his car door and fired a shot at him. The bullet passed through his shoulder and his forearm, according to police.

The victim drove away from the scene and then stopped on Hyde Park Boulevard and called for help. He was taken to ECMC where police said he was in stable condition.

Detectives are reviewing evidence in both cases. Anyone with information is asked to call the detective bureau at 286-4553.
