Country singer gets plea deal in Royalton domestic violence case

LOCKPORT – A country singer, indicted on felony assault and gun possession charges, was allowed to plead guilty to two misdemeanors Monday in Niagara County Court.

Michael S. Moore, 43, now of Cape Coral, Fla., and the woman fell into a table while fighting in her residence on Hartland Road in Royalton Oct. 22. The woman’s face was cut, although Moore contended that the woman had struck him first with her cellphone.

“I should have actually walked out,” said Moore, who performs under the name Michael Wright. He was originally charged with choking the woman. Police searching the residence found an illegal revolver that belonged to Moore.

Judge Matthew J. Murphy III promised concurrent sentencing for third-degree assault and fourth-degree weapons possession, thus limiting Moore’s potential jail time to one year. Moore, free on $50,000 bail, is to return to court Nov. 14.
