Tops Markets on Thursday moved its freezer warehouse operations into a new facility at 5000 North American Drive in West Seneca.
After several acquisitions and new store openings, the company had outgrown its former warehouse in Cheektowaga. At 200,000 square feet, the new space is more than twice the size of the former warehouse.
The warehouse serves all 172 stores in the Tops portfolio, shipping frozen foods from West Seneca to its stores in upstate New York, northern Pennsylvania, western Vermont and north central Massachusetts. The building’s size allows Tops to accommodate its existing stores and any future ones as the chain expands, the company said. The additional space also allows Tops to increase its item mix, improve efficiencies and provide greater selection.
With the former building, the company had to rely on outside storage. Now, the company can meet all of its own storage needs.
Over the next few months, the warehouse will be getting exterior improvements including LED lighting, safety lights and new dock seals.
The warehouse employs 64 people.
