A car company is making Buffalo the backdrop for a new commercial.
The Port Terminal Complex, roads near the Outer Harbor and the area near the Central Terminal make up much of the setting as a film crew continues shooting through Sunday.
Secrecy surrounds the project, which has involved and will involve some road closures.
A contingent of Buffalo firefighters was staged outside the Central Terminal on Friday morning.
The area in and around the terminal on the city’s East Side was subject to intermittent closures because of shooting Thursday and through 8 p.m. Friday, the Buffalo Police Department said in a Facebook post.
The lift bridge on South Park Avenue between Lee and Hopkins streets will be closed from about 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday because of filming. Drivers are asked to avoid that area near the Buffalo River, the department said in its Facebook post.
A crew has been in town since Wednesday, said Tim Clark of the Buffalo Niagara Film Commission.
“Word is spreading around the industry that Buffalo has a lot of cool places to shoot at,” Clark said.
Producers wanted an industrial look for the commercial and found Buffalo’s architectural assets fit their needs, he said.
Clark said he was limited in what he could say about the shoot because of a non-disclosure agreement.
“The cooperation from the city is huge,” he noted.
The Central Terminal was among the sites in Buffalo where “Marshall” was filmed earlier this year.
Buffalo also was the setting for a Nike commercial shoot in late 2013 when the Central Terminal played a big part in the shoot for a line of skateboarding shoes.
