School Board refuses to treat teachers fairly
Nicole Neily attacked teachers’ unions in her Viewpoints article in the Aug. 14 News. She is wrong in her fourth paragraph. Buffalo teachers “have come to the table” many times since 2004. Buffalo school boards have been able to bring in highly paid superintendents with generous “golden parachutes.” But these boards are unable to deal fairly with the teachers.
Failure to deal in good faith with teachers was recently established in court. In one of the richest, most powerful nations in the world, why should teachers, who enable this wealth and power, be expected to give back? Official statistics show that most new wealth and income is going to the upper income, and many workers are falling behind. It seems teachers and their unions are part of this trend.
