BROCTON – A dead dog found in an apartment has led to cruelty charges against a Brocton woman, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office said.
The sheriff’s office on Thursday arrested Kelly Harrell, 33, of East Main Street.
On the morning of Aug. 12, witnesses told sheriff’s deputies that Harrell lived in an East Main Street apartment but had abandoned a dog there for about two months. The dog was found dead and it had apparently been dead “for an extended period of time,” the sheriff’s office said.
Authorities charged Harrell with violating state agriculture and market laws, specifically for abandonment of an animal and “overdriving, torturing and injuring an animal.”
Harrell was taken into custody on Thursday in Jamestown. She was arraigned in Brocton Village Court and remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail in lieu of bail.
