Coach: Jenn Suhr "woke up coughing up blood;" will try to compete in pole vault finals tonight

Defending pole vault gold medalist Jenn Suhr "woke up coughing up blood" this morning, according to a text sent by her coach and husband Rick Suhr to The Buffalo News.

Rick Suhr added that Jenn will try to warm up tonight for the pole vault final, which is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

Rick Suhr posted a lengthy Facebook update documenting Jenn's status, including her being sick eight of the 11 days they have been in Rio.

Jenn Suhr battled a respiratory infection Monday prior to competing in the qualifying round on Tuesday.

In his Facebook post, posted Friday afternoon, Rick Suhr stated, "I ask all her supporters to not expect anything today."

He added: "I can only hope the next Olympic Champ can honor the title with the integrity and respect and humbleness that Jenn has."
