Letter: Why must we outsource sports announcing jobs?

Why must we outsource sports announcing jobs?

When or where did the media decide that a clipped British accent enhances the import, excitement and significance of sports announcing and commercial messages? To watch an American event such as golf, tennis, horse racing or so many of the Olympic events and have the lead commentator go into a frenetic frazzle, apparently losing control and offering unintelligible high-pitched unnecessary nonsense in a steady drone of ascending volume, pitch and rapidity, is of little appeal. Their presence is obviously not for consummate knowledge of the sport!

Apparently network bigwigs have polls, studies and forecasts that indicate the American public is easily seduced into some mythical form of submission by a quaint and obvious allegory to the emperor’s new voice.

Are there no American sports announcers worthy of flavoring what we all can easily experience with our own eyes?
