Signing ceremony Wednesday afternoon for Trueheart, Ayiy and Atkinson

Canisius will host a signing ceremony at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Kennedy Field House for three basketball players who helped the Crusaders win back-to-back New York State Catholic High School Athletic Association Class A championships.

Allen Wilson Buffalo News Player of the Year Stafford Trueheart, the state Class A Co-Player of the Year, is heading for Hofstra on a full-ride scholarship following a senior season in which the 6-foot-8 forward averaged 20.8 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in helping Canisius win a program-record 26 games.

He will play for former Niagara coach Joe Mihalich.

The 6-7 Madut Ayiy, who earned state and All-WNY honorable mention status, is staying local and will attend Division II Daemen, where he will play for coach Mike MacDonald.

Ayiy averaged 10 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game.

The 6-3 Will Atkinson, who will attend Rochester Institute of Technology, earned All-Catholic and honorable All-WNY honors after averaging 10.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game as a senior.

All three players helped the Crusaders win their first New York State Federation Class A Championship in 2015.
