The past few days have been exciting, entertaining and enjoyable! We have taken more walks on the beach, meeting new and old friends for a few drinks and lunch at an oceanside restaurant, Astors. I tried something new but ended up switching lunches with Tom. He enjoyed it more than I did.
We then visited the USA House for more USA gear. We met up with a few more friends and went to the Hippie Fair for a couple of souvenirs. Shenanigans was our next stop to watch some of the games. We can't understand the announcers but enjoy watching the games and medal ceremonies. Everyone came back to our apartment to watch the USA girls win again. We had dinner after and went to bed.
We were up early to the metro by 9 a.m. to get to the arena for the Mexico game.
The weather is beautiful here, 80 to 85 degrees with plenty of sun. The game was wonderful and it was great to see Murphy Troy, Reid Priddy and David Smith all get playing time.
Next we went back to our apartment for an afternoon with Matthew. It was wonderful to spend time with him. We discussed who and when we play next and then just talked about the other events and the records being broken in track and field.
After a few hours Matthew said goodbye, gave hugs and got in an Uber to head back to the hotel. A ride that usually takes 15 minutes took an hour and a half, but he was delivered back safe to the USA team.
Last night we took more elevator selfies and had a mouth-watering dinner at a Brazilian barbecue. Everyone enjoyed many helpings of great tasting beef, chicken, sausage and pork roast. We thought we had no room for dessert but we ended up having cheesecake with caramel, brownies with ice cream and sundaes, too.
We went back to the apartment to watch the final pool play games of France vs. Brazil and Italy vs. Canada. So now we have a schedule for the quarterfinals.
Let's go USA vs. Poland at 1 p.m. EST (2 p.m. here).
