An inmate at the Erie County Holding Center was apparently acting on a dare when he jumped from a second floor mezzanine inside of the jail to the bottom floor Tuesday afternoon, according to the Erie County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday.
“He acted out on a dare,” said sheriff’s office spokesman Scott Zylka. “This was not an attempt at suicide.”
The inmate, whose name was not released, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Erie County Medical Center for treatment.
The incident took place at about 1:30 p.m. in one of the new pod housing areas of the downtown holding center, officials said.
