Healthy choices: Paddle festival, Color Run on tap this week

Healthy snacking, the Buffalo Paddle Festival and the Color Run all are on tap this week and part of the WNY Refresh Top 10 Picks of the Week for those inclined toward good health, nutrition, fitness and fun family activities.


Snack Smart to Control Hunger: 10:30 a.m., The Dale Center, 33 Ontario St., Lockport. Interactive health seminar. Free.

Slow Roll: Riders gather at 5:30 p.m. and ride starts at 6:30 sharp outside Burchfield Penney Art Center, 1300 Elmwood Ave. Bikers up to age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Food Allergy Support: 7 p.m., Cleveland Hill Fire Hall, 440 Cleveland Drive, Cheektowaga. Hosted by Greater Buffalo Food Allergy Alliance.

The Color Run: “The Color Run Tropicolor World Tour” 5K, 8 a.m., Canalside, 1 Naval Park Cove. The Color Run Tropicolor World Tour will combine a 5K with the fun leisure of an island-style vacation full of unforgettable memories, music, and colors. Portion of proceeds will benefit Shoes on Students, which provides shoes to local underprivileged athletes. Runners will be bathed in a tropical array of colors and island scents as they pass through the shade of palm trees, inflatable arches, and island-style music.  For info and to register, visit

Buffalo Paddle Festival: 9 a.m. to dusk, Woodlawn Beach State Park, 3580 Lakeshore Road, Hamburg. Includes several canoe, kayak, stand-up paddleboard races, as well as demonstrations from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., beach volleyball and more; proceeds benefit Kids Escaping Drugs and Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper. Delaware Park near the Rose Garden.
