OLCOTT – Riding high on the success of its 14th season, Olcott Beach Carousel Park will celebrate a Roaring 20s Community Appreciation Day from noon to 6 p.m. next Sunday .
The event will feature free rides on the 1928 Herschell-Spillman carousel, cookies, washable tattoos and balloon animals. In addition, the Olcott Volunteer Fire Company will provide free truck rides from 1 to 3 p.m. Look for special guest appearances by Popeye and Olive Oyl, as well as antique cars on display.
Rob and Carol Allen’s Magic Show, presented by the Western New York Dairy Farmers, will provide entertainment at 2 p.m. A Skee Ball Challenge also will be featured, with three divisions. The winner in each division receives a Regal gift card.
The park also features other vintage kiddie rides for children no taller than 52 inches, for 25 cents per ride.
“We’ve been very busy here. I think attendance is up,” said Rosemary Sansone, park president. “As of July 31, we had sold 75,897 ride tickets this season.”
The idea for a community appreciation day came from the park treasurer, Gary Cammarata, Sansone recalled.
“He said we should do something to give back to the community, for the support it gives us through the season,” she said. “That’s why we do it.”
On Aug. 27, Rob and Carol Allen’s Magic Act at 2 p.m. will be followed by the Nels Ross In Jest Comedy Variety Show, suitable for the whole family. The entertainer is a juggler, known to enlist participants from the audience, during his show.
The park remains open through Labor Day, when its hours are noon to 6 p.m. It is located at 5979 Main St., Olcott. For more information, visit: www.olcottbeachcarouselpark.org or call (716) 778-7066.
