Falls man acting irrationally stabbed in the back during confrontation

NIAGARA FALLS – A 21-year-old man whose parents said he had been acting strangely all day was stabbed in the back shortly after midnight Saturday after attacking a man without provocation in the 900 block of 19th Street, police said.

Jason A. Washington Jr., of Lockport Street, was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. His condition was unavailable.

Police said Washington had been escorted home from his job earlier in the day after acting “irrationally,” including making threats.

Police, who said his parents feared for his safety and followed him when he left home later, said he began stopping random cars and yelling at pedestrians. At 19th Street and Elmwood Avenue, Washington punched a man, then was attacked by several bystanders, with one man stabbing him in the back with a switchblade, police reported.

The assailants fled before police arrived on the scene.
