City Hallways (Aug. 10) Deep South Taco coming 'soon' to Hertel, owner says

Deep South Hertel update

While driving past Hertel and Starin avenues yesterday, I saw a "Coming Soon" sign at the Deep South Taco site.

I emailed owner Richard Hamilton, and asked if he had anything more specific regarding when "soon" would be.

"We hope to go as fast as we can," Hamilton wrote back. "We are trying for 60 days or less but as you know, anything can happen."

Money Matters -  Week 2, Day 3

Our continuing look at political money brings us to South District Councilman Chris Scanlon, who had $7,631 in his campaign fund in January.

Scanlon raised $5,991 and spent $9,244 over the next six months. His biggest donor was Carl Paladino's Ellicott Development companies, which contributed a total of $1,000. His biggest expense was $750 to Bishop Timon-St. Jude High School, including $500 for a fundraiser and $250 for golf tournament.

Scanlon's committee has $4,377 remaining, according to financial disclosure reports filed in mid January with the state Board of Elections.

In today's Buffalo News and, my colleague Mark Sommer has story on the Nottingham gates compromise.

In case you missed it, here's my Sunday story on Steve Pigeon's money maze.
