It’s a great story which encapsulates the spirit of Buffalo and adds an element of a 45-year-old unsolved mystery.
You can read the story below. A rude cab driver almost ruined a Canadian couple’s weekend in Buffalo, but kindness from a police officer, a liquor store clerk, a parking garage attendant, and the woman in the photo above.
The photo was apparently taken along the polished stone wall outside the downtown library, and the reflection appears to show the Lafayette Hotel. There’s also a passenger, again apparently male, eating a sandwich.
Judging by the editor’s note accompanying the photo in The News library, she was never identified when the story first ran in 1971. Maybe now, with the help of the Internet, this citizen of the City of Good Neighbors might be given her just due?
