Buffalo lost in the final of the boys BCANY Summer Hoops Festival Tournament on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 75-66 decision to Rochester in Johnson City.
The teams were tied with three minutes left but a Buffalo team that averaged slightly more than 80 points in each of its first four games in the tournament struggled to score down the stretch.
Greg Dolan (Williamsville South) scored 20 points to lead Buffalo, while Dominick Welch (Cheektowaga), who had a monster double-double during the semifinal win over Central, added 12 points.
In the semifinals, Buffalo (4-1) pulled away from its Syracuse-based foe, 83-71, behind Welch’s 29 points, 12 rebounds and four assists. Dolan added 13 points, six assists and five rebounds, while James Rojas (Jamestown) had 14 points and 11 rebounds.
The tournament, in its fifth year, serves a replacement for the defunct Empire State Games’ scholastic basketball competition.
