Buffalo (3-0 in pool play) turned in two overwhelming performances Saturday in winning two games in the Basketball Coaches Association of New York (BCANY) Summer Hoops Festival in Johnson City.
The team of local high school stars defeated Southern Tier, 78-53, Saturday night after an 81-37 rout of Mid-Hudson earlier in the day.
Jamestown senior James Rojas scored 11 points against Southern Tier, while Williamsville South junior Greg Dolan recording 10 points to go with five assists. Dominick Welch (Cheektowaga) grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds for Buffalo, which returns to action at 11:30 a.m. Sunday against Central (Syracuse) in a semifinal.
Marcellus Cooper (Amherst) had 13 points while Dolan had 12 points and four assists and Da’Shawn Hines (Amherst) contributed 10 points in the victory over Mid Hudson. Ryan Bradley (Wilson) had 10 rebounds.
In girls play, Sara Pfeiffer (Olean) poured in 25 points and Emma Brinker (East Aurora) added 19 as Buffalo (1-3) rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit and defeated Suffolk, 78-68, before losing to Central New York, 56-50. NicKelle O’Neal (Cardinal O’Hara) had 11 points and Pfeiffer 10 for Buffalo.
The festival will wrap up Sunday with medal round games.
