Buffalo AAA Muny champion Battistoni Diesel is going back to the championship game of the National Amateur Baseball Federation Major Division championship game again.
Diesel, the defending champions, defeated Hackensack Troasts of New Jersey, 7-3, in the semifinals Saturday night at C.O. Brown Stadium in Battle Creek, Mich., to advance to the title game against either the Cleveland Black Wolves or Brooklyn Sports Fever at noon on Sunday.
Bart Stack and Rob Luehrsen each had three hits for Diesel while Mike Wagner had a pair of hits and scored twice in the victory over Hackensack. Nick Jasinski and Luehrsen came through with RBI singles as Diesel tacked on two insurance runs in the top of the ninth after James Tronolone had pitched out a jam in the eighth leaving Troast runners at second and third.
Earlier Saturday, Diesel broke the game open with four runs in the top of the eighth for a 10-0 lead then held on for a 10-5 victory over the Beecher Muskies (Ill.). Randy Moley went 4 for 5, including a double, scored twice and stole a base for Diesel as he raised his tournament average to .529 (9 for 17).
