An East Aurora shopping plaza seems to be springing back to life, after struggling for years.
Benderson Development Co. is planning a new PetSmart store for the Aurora Village Shopping Center, 123 Grey St.
The store would fill 15,000 square feet next to Verizon Wireless. Plans submitted to the East Aurora Planning Commission call for exterior remodeling to include new doors, paint and signage. There are also plans to add a loading dock at the rear of the store.
Benderson anticipates a first quarter opening in 2017.
The plaza, which formerly housed a Jubilee grocery store, had struggled for years. In September, national clothing chain TJ Maxx opened at 22,000-square-foot store in a long-empty former Ames department store in the plaza.
Other tenants in the plaza include Tops Markets, Valu Home Center, Payless Shoe Store and Mighty Taco.
The addition of the PetSmart store would leave a 30,000-square-foot vacancy between Petsmart and TJ Maxx.
