Buffalo boys trounce Nassau to open BCANY Summer Hoops Festival

The Buffalo boys team crushed Nassau 83-43 during the first day of the Fifth Annual BCANY Summer Hoops Festival in Johnson City near Binghamton.

Seven different players scored at least seven points with Cheektowaga senior-to-be and All-Western New York first team pick Dominick Welch leading the winners with 14 points. He had 10 points during the first half as Buffalo roared to a 50-21 halftime lead. Jamestown senior-to-be James Rojas scored 10 of his 12 points during the opening half, while Greg Dolan (Williamsville South), Ryan Bradley (Wilson), Joe Jones (Park) and Nick Montgomery (East Aurora) each added eight points.

Buffalo plays two games Saturday with the first a noon tip off against Mid Hudson and the second game at 7 p.m. versus Southern Tier.

Meanwhile, the Buffalo girls team dropped both its games Friday, losing to Hudson Valley, 68-42, and Southern Tier, 59-35.

Buffalo's girls resume tournament play with two games Saturday -- 10:30 a.m. against Suffolk and 2:30 p.m. against Central.
