The Buffalo Bandits have lost a key player from the team that reached the National Lacrosse League finals last season. Veteran Jay Thorimbert signed a two-year contract with the New England Black Wolves.
Thorimbert emerged as one of the best faceoff specialists in the sport during his time with the Bandits. He has been one of the league leaders in faceoffs and loose balls during the past few seasons. Last year, he won 57.8 percent of his faceoffs to lead the league, and grabbed 129 loose balls. He also had a goal and six assists.
Thorimbert began his career in Buffalo in 2008, but spent a season with Boston and Minnesota before returning to Buffalo in 2011. The 30-year-old was an unrestricted free agent.
Nick Weiss is the only other player on the Bandits roster who took more than two faceoffs last season, and he was 11 for 33 in that role.
