Hofstra is getting a player who knows a lot about winning in Stafford Trueheart.
That's something coach Joe Mihalich acknowledged Wednesday when he officially announced at gohofstra.com that the Canisius graduate signed a letter of intent to join the Pride.
"We are thrilled to add a player of Stafford's ability to our roster," Mihalich said on the team's website. "He has a winning pedigree and the ability to affect the game in a multitude of ways. We look forward to having Stafford as a part of the Hofstra family."
The 6-foot-8 Trueheart, the two-time All-Western New York first team pick and reigning Allen Wilson Buffalo News Player of the Year, helped the Crusaders win two Manhattan Cups, a pair of state Catholic Class A titles and reach the Federation Tournament of Champions as a junior and senior. Canisius won the Class A Federation title as overall state champion in 2015. He's a two-time All-Federation Tournament selection.
Trueheart averaged 20.8 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in helping the Crusaders win a program-record 26 games last season. He also set Canisius records for games played (96) and wins (83) in a career.
The Crusaders also won 50 of 51 games against Monsignor Martin Association competition during Trueheart's time with the program.
Trueheart scored 1,525 points during his four-plus seasons. He played as an eighth-grader at Christian Central. His 1,345 points at Canisius rank third in program history.
