Jurek just misses finals

Jack Jurek, who was leading the qualifying after 16 games, finished seventh in the PBA50 Dave Small’s Championship Lanes Classic Wednesday in Anderson, Ind. A 247-221 loss to eventual winner Brian Voss in the position round dropped the Lackawanna bowler off the stepladder, taking him from fourth to seventh place. He collected $1,500.

Buffalo native Tom Baker of King, N.C. ended up in the No. 3 spot on the stepladder after his 259-243 victory over Dale Csuhta. Baker who was 5-1 in match play lost to Brian Kretzer, 279-211, in Round Two of the stepladder finals, finishing fourth to earn $2,000. Voss defeated Lennie Boresch Jr. in the championship match, 222-206 after eliminating Kretzer, 240-222.

In the U.S. Women’s Open in Addison, Ill., Liz Johnson of Cheektowaga bowled an eight-game total of 1,556 Wednesday in the second round of qualifying and stands in 17th place with 3,249 total pins. Tannya Roumimper of Indonesia leads with 3,422.
