MAYVILLE – The health of Chautauqua Lake and measures being taken to improve it will be the focus of the Chautauqua Lake Rally, a public forum from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 20 in the Village Casino, 1 Lakeside Drive, Bemus Point.
It will include talks by Chautauqua County Executive Vince Horrigan and state and local officials. There also will be presentations on the state of the lake by the Chautauqua Lake Association and updates on efforts to get federal funding for watershed improvement projects. There also will be a session on efforts to improve sewage systems along the lake.
“Chautauqua Institution is currently upgrading its wastewater treatment plant,” said Chautauqua County watershed coordinator Dave McCoy, “which will result in significant water quality improvements. There are also three wastewater projects that are in the design or planning phases. These projects represent nearly $80 million in environmental infrastructure improvements.”
The rally is free and open to the public. Breakfast and accommodations will be provided by Andrew Carlson and Professional Hospitality Inc. For more information, call 661-8915.
