A water main leak in Amherst and a valve break in Getzville left 20 to 30 customers with no water service or low water pressure Sunday afternoon and into the evening, according to the Erie County Water Authority.
The problems were reported shortly after 6 p.m., according to a public-relations representative for the authority, and were posted on the authority’s Twitter account around 6:30 p.m.
Maintenance crews were working on the leak and the broken valve Sunday evening and expected to have the problems fixed by midnight. This comes 1½ weeks after a massive water main break prompted a 48-hour, boil-water advisory that affected 250,000 Erie County residents. But the Water Authority representative said Sunday’s leak and valve break in Amherst are examples of the 1,100 small waterline breaks the authority’s system experiences each year that don’t require boil-water advisories.
