Leib’s is still alive in the AAABA regional baseball tournament, which is taking place in Altoona, Pa. this week. But its margin for error is a small one.
The Buffalo team had a busy Friday with three games on its schedule. Leib’s lost its opener, 4-1, to Boston. The Massachusetts team scored three runs in the seventh inning to take command. Ben Monti drove in the lone Leib’s run.
In a rain-delayed game, Leib’s defeated Maryland State, 8-4. Ryan McCarrick went 4 for 4 from the plate. Finally, Leib’s beat Altoona, 8-0. McCarrick had three more hits and Alex Whipple added a homer.
Leib’s needs two wins to advance to Johnstown, Pa., for the national championship. One will have to come Saturday against Boston.
