Failed robbery in Brocton sends man to ECMC with gunshot wound

Two men are charged with attempted robbery and a third is at Erie County Medical Center following a fight Friday at a home in Brocton, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.

Lamar Jontill Matthews, 35, of Portland, and Shane T. Wynn-Hopkins, 39, of Meadville, Pa., were arrested in the Village of Westfield after fleeing the scene of an alleged shooting on Central Avenue in Brocton, police said.

Matthews, Hopkins and the person who was later sent to ECMC arrived at the residence, according to the sheriff’s office, and subsequently got into a fight with two people living at that residence.

During the disturbance, police said, one of the three who entered was shot by someone living at the Central Avenue address, and the other two others ran from the scene.

Deputies did not release the name of the wounded individual but confirmed he was not charged. He was treated at the scene by Brocton Fire Rescue and Portland Fire Rescue and Star Flighted to Erie County Medical Center.

The investigation is continuing.
