The developers of a proposed new residential and commercial project along Jefferson Avenue are holding a community meeting on Aug. 3 to discuss details of their plan and get feedback from the public.
People Inc. and Sinatra & Company Realty are seeking to construct a mixed-income housing development in a two-block area of Jefferson from Dodge to Northampton streets, with 84 apartments aimed at tenants whose income ranges from 30 percent to 130 percent of the area median income.
The $20 million project would entail a pair of three-story mixed-use buildings that would also have commercial spaces for retail tenants and other small businesses on each first floor. There would also be an urgent-care center or other medical component, as well as a workforce-development feature.
The group already owns or has under contract much of the land – which is vacant, fenced-in and grass-covered – and the city named them designated developers for several city-owned lots. Besides People Inc. and Sinatra, the team also includes CSS Construction as the general contractor, Bellamy Enterprises LLC for community outreach, and other East Side neighborhood and business leaders.
The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the Johnnie B. Wiley Amateur Pavilion, at 1100 Jefferson Avenue, at the corner of Best Street.
