Two of the three boys struck by a car Thursday in Cheektowaga suffered head injuries and were taken to Women’s & Children’s Hospital, Cheektowaga police confirmed Friday.
The accident occurred just before 4:30 p.m. at Central Boulevard and Eastland Parkway, said James Speyer, assistant police chief. Two of the boys are 12 years old. The third is 14, Speyer said.
The third boy was treated for a wrist injury and abrasions, and he was released, said police.
The accident occurred in a residential neighborhood just east of Harlem Road, The driver, a 23-year-old Cheektowaga woman was heading eastbound on Central and was making a left turn onto Eastland when she struck the boys. Two of them were walking. The third was roller blading, police said.
After striking the boys, the driver, identified as Amber Miller of Cheektowaga, initially left the scene but immediately returned, police said. Speed was not a factor, said Speyer.
“She was cooperative and voluntarily submitted to blood and urine testing,” said Speyer. “Because this is a serious-injury, if she refused we would have obtained a court order,” said Speyer.
Cheektowaga police are conferring with members of the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, but there are no charges at this time pending the results to toxicology tests.
“The results will not be available for weeks,” said Speyer. The vehicle – a 2010 Mercury sedan – was impounded, he added.
