Tom Loughran is more than the Erie County Legislature’s minority leader. He’s also the owner of Loughran’s Bar & Restaurant, a neighborhood gathering place in Amherst. Loughran expects to host about 50 people for the official Democratic convention watch party, sponsored by the Erie County Democratic Party.
The party starts at 8:30 p.m. and will go until the convention ends with Hillary Clinton's much-anticipated acceptance speech.
“A lot of our leaders are in Philadelphia, so this is for those of us who are left behind,” he said. “I’m just going to put some wings and a relish tray out, and maybe some spinach dip. Our spinach dip is always a huge hit.”
While most people will likely have their eyes fixed to one of the three 50-inch TVs behind the bar, Loughran said he didn’t know how much time he would be spending actually watching the big convention speeches. He expected to be busy making sure everyone was happy and well fed without being too obvious about it.
“The trick is to make it look like you’re not doing that, but when I’m there, that’s the way it always is,” he said. “That’s the nature of the business. I wouldn’t want anyone to go home hungry.”
