Elmwood Avenue in Tonawanda reopened following fire at apartment garage

A fire Thursday morning closed Elmwood Avenue in the Town of Tonawanda for about two hours and damaged a 10-bay garage at an apartment complex.

Firefighters from Kenmore, Ellwood and Kenilworth fire companies were called to battle a fire at the Ralston Elmwood Apartments, between Ralston and Thurston avenues, at about 5:20 a.m.

Elmwood was temporarily closed to traffic in both directions between Tulane Road and Westchester Boulevard, according to the Niagara International Transportation Technology Coalition.

Firefighters were still on scene checking for hot spots just before 7 a.m.

No further details were immediately available on the extent of damage or whether there were any injuries.
