LOCKPORT – A man with a 20-year criminal history he blamed on drug abuse was sentenced to two to four years in state prison Wednesday for stealing $688 worth of merchandise from the Lockport Walmart last year.
James J. Gould, 40, of Clinton Street, Lockport, also was barred from all Walmarts. “You’re not welcome there,” Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon told Gould.
He already had been barred from the Lockport store when the theft occurred June 21, 2015, which made the shoplifting arrest into a felony burglary charge. Gould must pay restitution to Walmart after his release from prison.
“All the arrests in my life are drug-related,” Gould said. But he vowed to Sheldon, “I guarantee this is the last time you’ll see me here.”
