Downtown Lancaster is opening its streets to the village’s annual Taste of Lancaster Aug. 5 and 6.
Competing the same weekend with the ever-popular Eden Corn Festival, the Lancaster event is still going forward.
The “taste” is happening from 5 to 11 p.m. Aug. 5 and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Aug. 6 along Central Avenue in the area of West Main Street and Broadway.
“This year was quite a challenge” since it runs at the same time as the Eden Corn Festival, said Dawn Gaczewski, village special events coordinator. “I marketed more than ever.”
Get ready for more than 20 food vendors, including food trucks. A portion of Central Avenue will be closed to traffic in the West Main area.
The Lancaster Volunteer Fire Department’s Hook & Ladder Co. opens its beer garden at 5 p.m. Aug. 5, with stage entertainment offered from 6 to 11.
Saturday will feature a repeat of the car show, held earlier this summer but which was affected by rain, along Central Avenue. The beer garden starts at 1 p.m., followed by daylong entertainment on stage from noon to 11 p.m. And the Bryce Buchholz Fund Luminiere Fest begins at 9 p.m. in the parking lot at 10 Aurora St.
The Taste of Lancaster will not include the 3-on-3 basketball event that it has in the past. Instead, it will add a 5K Run/Walk along a 3.1 mile route that begins and finishes on the corner of Pleasant Avenue and Central Avenue in front of Rite Aid.
Online registration will remain open until the start of the race. Race day registration and packet pickup will take place at Town Hall at 21 Central Ave. from 8 a.m. until the race begins at 9:30 a.m.
All runners who register by Saturday, July 30, are guaranteed to receive an official race shirt. Extra shirts will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis until they are gone.
