TUBBS, Nellie Potter

TUBBS - Nellie Potter Died surrounded by her large and loving family on July 25, 2016. She was 99 years old. Nellie was born in Troupsburg, NY on July 8, 1917. She married William Marcus Tubbs in 1942 and they raised four children. The family moved to North Tonawanda in 1956. Nellie worked as a hairdresser and, later, as personnel manager at G.C. Murphy Company. She retired from W.T. Grant Company. A brilliant gardener who adored reading and music, particularly Lawrence Welk, Nellie taught us that a bird feeder improves any view and that handmade blankets are the best gifts. She is fondly remembered for her independent spirit and unstoppable love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nellie was predeceased by her husband, William "Mark" in 1995, as well as her brothers, Elbert, Gilbert and Herman, and her beloved Jack Russell terrier, Petey. She is survived by her sisters, Norma Swimeley and Jean (Keith) Sworts, and sisters-in-law Margaret Potter and Bert Potter. Her special brand of Country Love and Wisdom is alive and well in her children, William (Sue) Tubbs, Robert (Sandra) Tubbs, Elizabeth (Edward) Wodjeski and Barry (Jean) Tubbs, as well as her nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. They miss her dearly. Family and friends are invited to Funeral Services Thursday at 11 AM in the WATTENGEL FUNERAL HOME, 533 Meadow Dr., North Tonawanda. Burial will be held privately in Woodlawn Cemetery, Austinburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Online guest registry at
