Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown and Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz were among the few representatives outside of New York City to stand on stage with the other state leaders late Monday afternoon in a show of support for Hillary Clinton, who served as New York's U.S. senator from 2001 to 2009. They didn't know until about an hour beforehand that they would have the opportunity to stand on the convention stage with other Congressional and statewide representatives.
Though Poloncarz has attended four Democratic conventions, this year was his first opportunity to appear on stage with other bigwigs, he said. Getting up there required a two-pass process, which was revoked as soon as the New Yorkers left the spotlight.
"It was a moment I certainly won’t forget," Poloncarz said. "I wish I’d known about it a lot more beforehand because I would have told more people to watch on C-SPAN."
Fortunately, a New York Times photographer managed to capture the moment.
