'Gasland' filmmaker is loyal to Bernie Sanders: 'We're not the ones breaking the Democrats, it's Hillary'

Environmental activist Josh Fox knows how to win a fight.

His Academy Award-nominated documentary "Gasland," inspired a grassroots movement that helped squelch fracking for natural gas in New York State.

Fox's newest film about climate change is generating international heat.

Today, he's one of the most recognizable faces of the Bernie Sanders movement.

Fox told Capitol Confidential at the Albany Times-Union that he doesn't want Republican Donald J. Trump elected to the White House and will do everything he can to make sure he's not elected.

But, Fox believes the establishment Democratic party is ignoring Bernie's groundswell of progressives at its own peril.

"We're not the ones breaking the Democrats, it's Hillary. We're not. We're not it," Fox stated. "Eighty-five percent of people under 45 want this agenda. That's not about now, that's the future of this party."

And, Fox is not endorsing Hillary Clinton.

"The cold, hard reality right now is the Clinton campaign is estranging those people (who support Sanders' agenda) and it's on them," Fox told Capitol Confidential.

On Hillary Clinton and the Democrats, the filmmaker said, to embrace Bernie Sanders' movement.

"You know, we all heard the minute Bernie endorses, Hillary Clinton is going to shoot up in the polls 13 percent. Guess what? Didn't happen," Fox said in the interview with Capitol Confidential. "Why didn't it happen? There's a trust gap. There's a credibility gap and there's a policy gap."

And, Fox doesn't just expect Bernie Sanders' supporters to just fold in behind the Democratic candidate, especially given the recent developments of hacked Democratic National Committee emails suggesting party operatives worked behind the scenes to deny Sanders a fair shot at the nomination.

"We know there's a lot of rigging going on, we're upset about these things," Fox said. "It's on Hillary to figure out how to fix the problem."

"She's the one who started it."
