Seven people were driven from their homes after a fire spread from a vacant house to an apartment building in Black Rock Thursday night.
Firefighters were called to a blaze 99 Thompson St., near Amherst Street and Tonawanda Street, just after 11:30 p.m. Thursday, according to the Buffalo Fire Department alarm office. Fire at the 2½-story vacant home spread to a three-story, four-unit apartment building at 103 Thompson.
Four adults and three children who lived in the apartment building were receiving assistance from the Red Cross. Damage to the building was pegged at $110,000, the alarm office said.
The vacant house sustained $30,000 in damage. Emergency demolition of the home was requested.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
