Local softball teams still have shots at title in NSA World Series

Local teams have earned shots at a title in their respective division at the NSA Fast Pitch World Series, being played at Sunshine Park in West Seneca and at Amherst Audoubon Recreation Complex.

In the 10-under, the Amherst Lightning edged another local team, the NY Diamond Girls, 1-0, and return to action at 1 p.m. at Sunshine Park against the winner of the one-beaten bracket. The Diamond Girls will face the winner of the 9 a.m. contest between Lancaster Heat and the Ohio Monsters at 11 a.m. for a berth into the overall final.

In 14-under play, Lou Gehrig Lasers Gold defeated Coastal Fury, 13-6, to advance in the winner’s bracket. They face fellow unbeaten Fauquier Freeze of Virginia at 10 a.m. at Audubon. The winner advances to the championship round while the loser returns to action in the one-beaten bracket where it will face either Clarence or the WNY Sting in the elimination-bracket final at noon. That winner then faces the unbeaten bracket winner in the final round, which begins at 2 p.m. If necessary, the decisive game of the championship round starts at 4.

In 18-under, Western New York Rally returns to action in undefeated-bracket play against the LV Patriot Flames at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Audubon. The winner advances to the championship round, while the loser must win a once-beaten bracket contest to fight its way back into the championship round final, which begins at 3 p.m.

In 23-under pool play, Amherst, West Seneca Blue and the NY Diamond Girls are still have a shot at reaching the championship round.
