Hollister is gone, Jainlee is open and other changes at Boulevard Mall

Sure, the new Dick’s Sporting Goods has been open for months, and everyone’s favorite Chinese restaurant, Taste of China, has settled in quite nicely, splitting the former Honey’s space with Subway.

But if you haven’t been to Boulevard Mall in a while, there is plenty else you’ve missed.

Here are eight other changes that have taken place at the Amherst shopping center.

1) Jainlee opened Tuesday in the former Radio Shack at the south end of the mall, across from MasterCuts and next to Tuxedo Junction. The store sells specialty and performance footwear, such as the Earth, Birkenstock, Dansko, Merrell, Keen, Spenco, Crocs and Vibram FiveFingers brands.

It also sells Life is Good merchandise. Jainlee has other locations at 6550 Niagara Falls Blvd. in Niagara Falls and at the Eastern Hills Mall in Clarence.

2) Book Outlet and More opened in the former Hollister store late last month. For several years, the store was located in the former Wurlitzer building in North Tonawanda, 908 Niagara Falls Blvd.

In addition to discounted books, the store sells action figures, collectibles, comic books, memorabilia and novelty items. It also buys comic book collections.

3) McNerny Irish Imports opened this spring in the former Boulevard Mall Bootery store between Bonefish Grill and Littman Jewelers.

The store sells imported Irish goods, such as wool caps, Aran knit sweaters, Celtic home decor, gifts and jewelry. It has another location in Lewiston at 480 Center St.

4) The former YogenFruz is still empty. The mall said it is talking to two or three potential tenants, and it expects to fill the space with another food vendor.

5) Pure Integrity Candles has returned to the mall. It got its start at Boulevard Mall in 2002, making and storing candles there, and selling them from a kiosk near Macy’s. In 2013, H&M took over the space it used for its candle-making operation, so Pure Integrity moved to the Eastern Hills Mall.

Pure Integrity still makes its natural soy wax candles at Eastern Hills, but now has an in-line space at Boulevard mall in the former Yankee Candle store. Yankee Candle left the mall in favor of a new location it opened in Boulevard Consumer Square on Niagara Falls Boulevard last year.

6) Go! Games, Toys & Books is usually a seasonal retailer, but impressive sales numbers at the mall last Christmas and earlier this year prompted the company to extend its lease year-round. It is using half of the space that was formerly the Gap, and will open up the other half of the space to retail once the Christmas shopping season begins.

Instead of having its usual calendar kiosk, the calendars will be located in that 4,000-square-foot half of the store.

7) Sweet Melody’s, the gelato kiosk near Dick’s, has closed. When its lease expired in April, it moved to 8485 Transit Road in Amherst, near Niagara County Produce. It also has a food truck that regularly makes the rounds downtown.

8) The mall is currently building out a 1,300-square-foot space near Dick’s Sporting Goods for a new nail salon. Elegant Nails & Spa is expected to open by the end of August.
