Power Take: Adding Boldin would add veteran presence to Bills

The Bills should save their cap space and hold off on signing a running back like Reggie Bush. Karlos Williams is out the first four weeks of the season. So what? If LeSean McCoy goes down for a week, the Bills still have Mike Gillislee, Jonathan Williams and other options who can do a good short-term job.

What happens if Sammy Watkins goes down for a week with a sprained ankle? Trouble. Imagine rolling out Robert Woods, Greg Salas and Dezmin Lewis against Bill Belichick. He’s shutting that lineup down.

If you want to add a veteran, let’s talk about receiver Anquan Boldin. He’ll be 36 in October. He’s probably waiting for what he feels is the ideal situation. It might not be Buffalo. But Boldin was superb under Greg Roman with the Niners in 2013 and 2014. He had 69 catches last season.

Roman is outstanding, from this perspective. He knows what’s best for the offense. The Bills have a slew of young, unproven WRs. Maybe a couple of them emerge. But the Tom Brady suspension has upped the ante. The playoff door opened a tad wider. Boldin would help a lot.
