Add Jose Bautista to the list of Major League superstars who will pass through Coca-Cola Field.
The Toronto Blue Jays slugger is scheduled to join the Buffalo Bisons this week as he begins his rehabilitation assignment.
Bautista has been out since June 16 with a hyperextended big toe on his left foot, otherwise known as turf toe.
He is scheduled to play in Single-A Dunedin on Wednesday and travel to Buffalo on Thursday. He will not play on Thursday. If he feels fine after Wednesday’s outing, he will be in the Bisons’ lineup on Friday. The plan then is to take it daily. If he feels all right after Friday, he will play on Saturday. Same thing goes for Sunday.
Should he play for the Bisons on Saturday, he will be the second Toronto Blue Jay to make his rehab stint during the Herd’s annual Star Wars Night, joining Jose Reyes (2013) who played in a Star Wars-themed jersey. The promotional game is Saturday with 1,500 tickets remaining.
On Tuesday, the Bisons had three players on the roster on MLB rehab stints – infielder Ryan Goins (forearm strain), outfielder Chris Colabello (return from suspension) and pitcher Franklin Morales (shoulder fatigue).
