Complaints about an approximately 2-year-old lost child heard screaming while standing outside on a Mayville sidewalk after midnight Sunday led to the arrest of a female relative, Chautauqua County officials announced Monday.
After a concerned neighbor found the child at about 1 a.m. on South Erie Street, authorities determined that the toddler had not been kept in a secure residence.
Deputies charged Jennifer M. Blanchard, 36, of South Erie Street, Mayville, with endangering the welfare of a child, according to the police report. Sheriff’s officials later identified her as a family member, but did not specify the relationship.
Blanchard was issued an appearance ticket for Town of Chautauqua Court, while county Child Protective Services workers also are investigating the incident.
