Niagara Falls man given chance at probation in gun case

LOCKPORT – A man who was caught with an illegal handgun and 31 bullets in a Town of Niagara traffic stop last year will have a chance to convince a judge that he shouldn’t be sent behind bars.

Jamal R. Swanson, 29, of 20th Street, Niagara Falls, was placed on seven months’ interim probation Monday, pending a final sentencing decision by Niagara County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III.

Swanson, who was arrested Sept. 25, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of attempted second-degree criminal possession of a weapon: an unregistered 9-millimeter handgun.
