LOCKPORT – Lockport police charged a John Street man with two felonies after finding an allegedly stolen handgun under the seat of his car following a traffic stop early Saturday.
Michael D. Wilkins, 23, was arrested about 4:20 a.m. after police pulled him over on Locust Street for running a stop sign. A police report said the smell of marijuana came from the vehicle, and two plastic containers of pot were confiscated, along with a digital scale with white powder residue on it. A further search turned up the gun, which had been listed as stolen in an online police database.
Wilkins was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, as well as unlawful possession of marijuana, running a stop sign and drinking in a vehicle.
