The Buffalo City Mission received a $75,000 grant Thursday from the John R. Oishei Foundation to support basic needs of food, clothing and shelter for impoverished and homeless people. Last year, the mission served more than 187,500 meals and provided a total of 82,947 safe nights of sleep.
“We thank the Oishei Foundation for their commitment to improving the lives of homeless Western New Yorkers,” said Stuart Harper, executive director and chief executive officer of the mission. “This includes people who are staying in shelters, transitional housing, on the streets, in a vehicle, ‘couch surfing,’ or in any other unstable or transient housing situation.
“Here at the Mission,” he added, “our focus is helping people with the complex challenges they face while meeting their basic needs to survive right now and over time and to develop long-term solutions to help them stabilize their lives once and for all.”
