I was driving down Hertel Avenue on the way to work this morning, and got detoured at Colvin Avenue. That's where Hertel gets shut down to traffic because the Italian Festival starts later today. So I got out of my car and took this picture before continuing on to work.
The festival runs through Sunday.
Interesting trivia note: Buffalo's Italian Festival is listed on the I Love NY Website.
Tacos set to be approved
Looks like the Council is set to give the final stamp of approval needed for Lloyd's taco to open on Elmwood Avenue.
During a committee meeting earlier this week, Niagara Councilman Dave Rivera got assurances from the Lloyd's owners that the restaurant won't have any outdoor music. Rivera also asked Lloyd's owners to reach out to residents living behind the planned restaurant who have noise-related concerns about Lloyd's plans for an outdoor service bar.
Assuming all goes well with that, Rivera indicated the restaurant should get approved Tuesday.
This one's about cats
Seems someone in City Hall's been telling residents to humanely trap feral cats, then call the city's Animal Control office to pick them up.
Turns out that was bad information. Animal Control doesn't handle feral cats, I'm told.
Instead, residents should call a feral cat organization at 1-888-902-9717.
Or, the SPCA - at 875-7360 - which will notify the feral cat group.
SPCA deputy director Beth Shapiro said the feral cat association will come to the neighborhood, pick up the cats, get them spayed or neutered, then return them to the community and help teach interested residents how to care for the free-roaming felines.
