A skydiver was transported to Erie County Medical Center Wednesday evening after he had a “hard landing” on Grand Island.
Jeffrey Antonich, 42, of Newfane, hit the ground at an estimated 40-50 mph and sustained multiple system trauma, according to a Grand Island Fire Company press release. An on-scene team of medics delivered ALS treatment before the arrival of Mercy Flight. He was then flown to the trauma unit of ECMC for “intensive medical follow-up.”
He was part of a two-person routine high above Grand Island for the July 13th neighborhood picnic sponsored by Robert Mesmer at Love Road and Alt Boulevard. The first skydiver had no problems, landing softly on the grassy airstrip.
Erie County Sheriff’s Office public information officer Scott Zylka said the FAA was notified.
