Resume: Brandon Hagel made an impression in the Development Camp scrimmage on Saturday. He made the hit and the pass to Judd Peterson that helped set up the first goal of the game for Team Blue. He was a part of the best line on the ice, featuring him, Peterson and Nick Baptiste.
"We kept talking throughout the whole game and it just ended up going the right way," Hagel said.
Hagel had a knack for seeing the ice during camp this week, something Tim Murray noted in his press conference Tuesday. Hagel wasn't just clearing space for Baptiste and Petersen. He was a big part of Team Blue sticking in the offensive zone on that line's shifts.
"I just need to play hard," Hagel said. "I need to play my game. I use my hockey sense and work as hard as I possibly can."
How would you describe your game?
"I'm kind of a more physical player. I use my hockey sense well and pass the puck."
What player do you model your game after?
"I'd say Johnny Gaudreau since he's a younger guy and a smaller guy growing up just like I was. I was only 5-foot-2 coming out of Bantam."
What is your greatest hockey accomplishment?
"Being able to play for the Memorial Cup host team Red Deer. It was an unbelievable experience. Not many people get to do that."
What are your goals for this season?
"I want to go back to Red Deer and be the best possible player on the ice every night and be a key player to the team."
Why do you wear No. 22?
I usually wear 8 and there wasn't that option. My best buddy, I played with him in Midget, he wore 22."
What’s something you like to do off the ice?
"I golf quite a bit out in my hometown."
