A Sardinia man is due in court Tuesday after being charged with vehicular manslaughter in the April 12 crash in Colden that killed a Wales man.
Kody Schroeder, 19, was arrested and charged Friday by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office.
Chauncy Kloiber, 28, was a back seat passenger in Schroeder’s vehicle when Schroeder crashed into the back of another vehicle on Center Road, between Blanchard and Partridge roads.
Schroeder’s vehicle ended up in a ditch. A woman in her late teens, who was a passenger in the front seat, was severely injured in the crash.
Schroeder was charged with vehicular manslaughter and vehicular assault. He was arraigned Friday in Colden Town Court and was being held later that day in the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Investigators believe drug impairment and speed were factors in the crash, the sheriff’s office said.
